Under the calendar is team A’s hours for each Sunday-to-Saturday week, with any hours over 40 shown as overtime. Rotations don’t line up with calendar weeks, so some weeks come out long and some short, and that’s where overtime appears even when the average looks ordinary.

How a 2-2-3 rotation works
Over 14 days you work 2 days, take 2 off, work 3, take 2 off, work 2 and take 3 off. That’s 7 shifts in two weeks. A second team runs the same pattern a week later, so between them every day is covered by exactly one team.
With 12-hour shifts that’s 84 hours every two weeks, an average of 42 a week. But the weeks alternate. In the worked example, team A starts on a Monday and works 4 shifts, 48 hours, in the first Sunday-to-Saturday week and 3 shifts, 36 hours, in the next. With overtime counted after 40 hours a week, the long week has 8 hours of overtime.

What is an example of a 2-2-3 work schedule?
Team A works Monday and Tuesday, is off Wednesday and Thursday, works Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then the next week is off Monday and Tuesday, works Wednesday and Thursday, and is off Friday to Sunday. Team B works the opposite days.
