Weekly timesheet
A weekly timesheet records one workweek, seven days from the day your week starts, and adds up the hours for that week alone. It’s the natural unit for overtime, because the usual rule counts hours over 40 in a single workweek, whatever happens the week before or after.

Download the Excel version to type your times and have the total, the regular hours and the overtime worked out with formulas, or the blank PDF to fill in by hand. The online version below does the same in your browser, and lets you change the day your week starts under Pay rules.
Each version leaves room for your name, your employer and your hourly rate, and ends with signature lines. If you’re paid every two weeks, the biweekly timesheet keeps two weeks together while still checking overtime one week at a time.
Worked example: Six 8-hour days: Saturday is all overtime

How to work out your weekly hours
Total each day: clock-out minus clock-in, minus any unpaid break. Then add the seven days. In the worked example, Monday to Saturday are 9:00 to 5:00 with no break: six days of 8 hours, 48 in all.
Split the total at the weekly limit. The first 40 hours are regular and the 8 after that are overtime, so Saturday’s whole shift falls in overtime. At $20 an hour that’s $800 regular plus 8 × $30 = $240 overtime, an estimated gross of $1,040.
Questions
What is a weekly timesheet?
A record of one person’s working hours for a single week, day by day, with the week’s total. Employers use it for payroll; workers use it to check that their pay matches the hours they put in.
How do I calculate my weekly hours?
Work out each day’s hours (end minus start, minus unpaid breaks), then add the days together. The Excel file and the online timesheet do both steps for you.
How do I make a weekly timesheet in Excel?
Make columns for date, start, end, unpaid break and hours, with a formula for each day’s hours and a SUM for the week. This file has them set up, including shifts that end after midnight.
My week starts on Monday. Does that matter?
Only for where one week ends and the next begins, which decides the overtime. In the online timesheet, set “Week starts on” under Pay rules. In the Excel file, type the dates down the first column, starting with the first day of your week.
What if I work two jobs?
Keep one weekly timesheet per job, so each paycheck can be checked against the hours you worked for that employer.
